New-to-me restaurant: Toro (Boston, MA)

Last Wednesday (7/21), Jeff, Kim, Kevin and I went to Toro in Boston to celebrate Kevin and Jeff's one-day-apart birthdays. Jeff and Kim had been there multiple times, had been talking it up, and we hadn't had tapas in quite awhile, so off we went!

In one word... AMAZING! We were seated outside on a thankfully breezy and non-humid evening. The dishes were brought out at the perfect pace, everyone was up for trying a bit of everything... it was cool, it was relaxing, and most of all, it was delicious!

We had:
  • Gambas al Ajillo - Griddled garlic shrimp
  • Panza de Cerdo - Crispy pork belly with sunchoke, escargots, fava beans and smoked maple crumble
  • Maíz Asado con Alioli y Queso Cotija - Grilled corn with alioli, lime, espelette pepper and aged cheese
  • Asado de Huesos - Roasted bone marrow with radish citrus salad and oxtail marmalade (and this counts as one of my new foods - never had bone marrow before!)
  • Pato con Membrillo - Smoked duck drummettes with quince glaze
  • Patatas Bravas - Fried potatoes with alioli and spicy tomato sauce
  • Tuna tartare with charred green onions and pine nuts
  • Churros
Drinks:
  • Caramelized Caipirinha - Agua Luca cachaca, muddled caramelized limes, sugar (Jeff and Kevin each had one)
  • Sherry Julep - Pale cream sherry, muddled mint, sugar, cava (me)
  • La Granada - Christiania vodka, pomegranate, housemade grenadine, splash rosé cavan (Kim)
  • The Gypsy - Plymouth gin, yellow Chartruese, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, lime (Jeff)
  • Sanguinello Hi-ball - Fresh blood orange juice, Aperol, Plymouth gin, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, splash soda water (Kim - swapped Hendricks gin for Plymouth gin)
  • Ward Eight - Old Overholt rye, lemon juice, orange juice, grenadine (Kevin)
